Objectif : améliorer la survie des agneaux rejetés par leur mère ou orphelins
Description :
- S’assurer que l’agneau ingère du colostrum dans ses 4 à 6 premières heures de vie, et mieux encore dans la 1ère heure
- Observer le comportement mère-agneau juste après mise bas et rechercher des signes de mauvaise affectation. Masser les pis pour détecter d’éventuelles mammites et dans ce cas sevrer la portée
- Le colostrum peut être donné au biberon pour s’assurer de la boisson à la bonne température de 38°C, il ne doit pas être réchauffé au micro-ondes qui altère les anticorps
- En cours d’agnelage, le colostrum excédentaire de brebis multipares à portée simple peut être collecté et stocké au frais ou congelé (pendant 6 mois maxi)
- Donner du colostrum pendant les 3-4 premiers jours, de 150 à 200 ml à chaque prise, 3 fois par jour au minimum selon la taille de l’agneau
- Du colostrum complémentaire stocké à la ferme peut être donné aux triplés
- Utiliser un réfractomètre pour s’assurer de la qualité du colostrum avant stockage
- Réformer les brebis à faible attachement maternel ou faibles laitières

Prérequis et/ou limites :
- Observer les rejets peut être difficile dans certains élevages
- Dans certains cas en particulier chez les agnelles, bien que le lien brebis-agneau soit bien établi la quantité de colostrum peut être insuffisante
- L’éleveur doit réformer dès que possible les brebis à faible attachement maternel
