Cooperation between agricultural and livestock farmers for the cultivation and use of linen as a sustainable alternative for the agro-livestock systems of the Basque Countryo Objective: To promote the cultivation of linen locally in the Basque Country as an alternative for animal feeding to obtain higher quality milk and dairy products (butter, yogurt and cheese).
Summary: First, the production of linen under the local conditions of the Basque Country will be assessed (areas, varieties, etc.). Then, linen will be produced and introduced within the formulation of diets for sheep and cattle milk production. The nutritional value and organoleptic features of the milk and dairy products will be assessed. Agricultural farmers willing to produce linen will be identified, and the joint collaboration between crop producers and livestock farmers, particularly women, will be fostered.
