The nature of the land affects the composition of forage including trace elements. The soils of the Segala zone are naturally poor in Selenium, which induces a low selenium content in the diet produced and distributed to the ewes. A cure of selenium in the month preceding the lambings makes it possible to fill this deficiency with beneficial effects on the ease of put-low (muscle tone during the efforts, facility of dilation of the cervix, …) thus avoiding complications (as cesarean section) . The effect of this cure in the last month of gestation also allows a direct contribution to the fetus to avoid myopathies in the first months of life of the lamb.
